ANNAI ILLAM is a free old-age home in Sundarapandiapuram village of Tenkasi District, Tamil Nadu. It provides shelter, food and care for destitute elders, so that they can live the rest of their life in a dignified way. Annai Illam is run by ANNAI SOCIAL WELFARE TRUST (URN: AAGTA6013RF20231) Regd. No. 27/2017
Mr. P Rajendran started his work of helping the needy in his teenage years. After his marriage, his wife Christy joined him in his efforts. Mr. Rajendran helped 33 children's education by providing books and uniforms. He contributes regularly to marriages in poor families by donating household items.
A few years ago, he started providing free food to destitutes in Sundarapandiapuram. He then learnt that many abandoned elders needed shelter. So he bought an acre of land to set up an old-age home. In 2017, he established Annai Social Welfare Trust with the aim of building shelters for elders in need.
Over the years, the number of residents has been increasing as Mr. Rajendran accepts any senior citizen who has been abandoned. As of now, there are 3 sheds accommodating a total of 80 people - 48 women, 25 men and 7 children. Their basic medical needs are met at the local Primary Health Centre. The children are enrolled at the local government school. Mr. Rajendran also provides free ambulance service for the needy people of nearby villages.
Our goal is to provide a decent living environment, healthy food, and medical care for the existing residents, and accept more abandoned senior citizens at our shelters. Our current resources are barely enough to cover the daily food expenses. We require funding for better infrastructure and more staff to achieve our goals.
